I’ll likely read the rest soon, though, because the characters are just wonderful. I’ll be honest–I haven’t read the last three books because I was so happy with the ending of the original trilogy, which seems to be a pretty common mindset. There are six books in total, along with five novellas. While there are a few “whoa, there” moments, overall, I think her story of growth is wonderful. Much of what she says is through metaphors that can be a bit frustrating to navigate, especially if you’re not expecting them.Īfter I finished the original trilogy, I realized Juliette was much more complex than I’d originally given her credit for. This made it difficult to really connect to her way of describing the world around her, at least at first. ![]() It’s written in a very stream-of-consciousness style through the eyes of Juliette. She was imprisoned after her touch accidentally killed a person, and due to the lack of human contact both before and during her confinement, her mind has become a bit shattered, so to speak. I’m not sure if it was the writing style or the narration that got me, honestly. So why did it take me so long to pick up book 2? The story begins in an asylum where Juliette is starved and isolated. There’s a slight love triangle, but it’s the enjoyable kind where you actually see the MC’s growth. The main character, Juliette, as well as two other characters grow up with abuse and neglect. The main character, Juliette, whose touch can (and did) kill, finds herself falling in with a group of these people, which allows her to finally find a place in the world where she’s welcome. Without getting too spoilery, this series has a Hunger Games-meets- X-Men feel, where the world is run by an evil government organization and there’s a small subset of society who have special powers. If you don’t believe me, I guess you might just have to read it.Not long ago, I was on a dystopian romance kick, so I decided to do a reread of the Shatter Meseries, which is one of my favorites of the genre. I read it for the first time back in 2014 and it took me until 2016 to finally pick up book 2, Unravel Me, but I’m SO glad I did! Overall, Shatter Me was amazing and a great start to the series. For all who like dystopian, action, or romance, I suggest you read this novel. But anyone could read this and enjoy it because of its well thought-out story. I would recommend Shatter Me to someone who is looking for an intriguing, fast paced book that feels like a movie. ![]() Especially when Juliette was introduced, her writing is simple to follow and understand. She includes a thorough walk through of each character’s physical features and backstory. When we are introduced to these characters, Tahereh’s writing style is easy to digest but still is extremely detailed and intriguing. The rest of the characters are sure to keep you engaged and interested, as well. But we really dive into his backstory in the second book, Unravel Me. He goes through a lot of development throughout this book and the whole series. Warner, who is obsessed with Juliette and her powers, is one of the best characters. The love interest, Adam, is discrete and mysterious at first, but later on his secrets are revealed, causing tension between him and Juliette. We are introduced to a powerful female lead on the first page in this novel. Without any other choice, Juliette is forced to go along with Warner’s and the Reestablishment’s plans for her and her power.īecause the series is particularly complicated, sometimes it’s hard to remember that the characters are just teenagers. Warner, son of the Supreme Commander, wants to use Julliette as a weapon. The Shatter Me series involves the main character, Juliette, who has the ability of the touch of death. The Shatter Me series consists of 6 books and 5 novellas while The Cruel Prince series consists of 3 books. Soon Juliette finds herself in the grasp of the Reestablishment, a power hungry government that has tricked people into believing the world is worse than it truly is. The Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi and The Cruel Prince series by Holly Black are both amazing fiction book series. Then finds herself getting slowly more interested in him as the days go on. ![]() Afraid that she will hurt him, she tries everything she can to stay away from him. After 264 days of being locked up in an asylum alone, a mysterious man named Adam joins as her new cellmate. ![]() Juliette is cursed with the power of lethal touch. Just like the title, this book will shatter your perception of young adult and dystopian novels.
